What is Cellulite, Its Risk Factor and

Solution?

Cellulite is the annoying skin texture that forms on the thighs, hips, buttocks and stomach and it quite exclusive to women, but some men also have it. One of the factors producing the orange peel is hormones and weight gain.

Why is Cellulite?

The appearance of cellulite on the skin is caused by fibrous tissue that connects the skin to muscle underneath. What remains between the skin and muscle is fat. When fat begins to accumulate (even notice more if you gain weight) it begins to push the fat to the skin, but the tissue that connects it stays in place and that causes the irregular surface of the skin and it look dimpled.

Cellulite Risk Factors

According to the Mayo Clinic, 8 out of 10 people with cellulite are women because women fat is distributed around the belly, hips, thighs and buttocks. The men accumulate fat in the belly area, which is where they usually have cellulite.
Another risk factor is age. The more elasticity skin loses, the more irregular accumulations of fat appear.

Gaining weight is another factor that makes cellulite appear or become more noticeable. But beware as it appears in overweight people but also in very thin people. This is because the most important factor, according to Clinic Mayo, is genetic. The possibility of developing cellulite is inherited.

Other Risk Factors
  • Stress
  • No exercise
  • Hormonal changes such as menarche or first menstruation, pregnancy and menopause
  • Taking birth control pills

Can I Prevent Cellulite?

What you can do if you have predisposition to develop cellulite is trying to reduce its visibility. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommends the following;
  • Eating healthy and rich diet with fruits and vegetables
  • Staying hydrated
  • Exercising regularly to maintain muscle and skin in optimum condition
  • Maintain a healthy weight and avoid weight fluctuations constantly
  • No Smoking

There is nothing to miraculously remove cellulite. If you have it, you can only diminish its appearance. Do not waste your money on creams and treatments. Massages decrease only temporarily, liposuction is to remove fat that is on a deeper and no subcutaneous level is the one cause of that appearance.

You can try to hide cellulite or use sunless tanning. Cellulite is less noticeable when the skin is tanned.

Should I be worried about my health when I have cellulite?

No, cellulite is not considered by the medical community as a disease. It is just a condition that has more to do with aesthetics and therefore with how you feel about for yourself. Being largely a genetic condition, even some models and celebrities have cellulite.
